SURGICAL IMPLANT / SURGICAL HARDWARE / PRE-POST SURGICAL CHIROPRACTIC APPLICATIONS

Different types of care should be expected for those that have had reconstruction surgery for the hips, knees, spinal areas such as that for neck & low back stabilization, as well as correction of severe scoliosis deformities straightened by rods, screws, and tethers! Each post-surgical application using Chiropractic adjustments for follow-up and management care must be specific to the needs of EACH patient.

PRE-SURGICAL CHIROPRACTIC APPLICATIONS

A MISSED OPPORTUNITY FOR SUCCESS

Standardized processes exists in hospitals and Doctors offices that create an environment for consistency and control of persons that find themselves in need of a surgical intervention. Unfortunately, these algorythms offered do not add the Chiropractor into the processes. Oftentimes, the primary reasoning for this lack of inclusion is unfamiliarity with what a Chiropractor does and what the Chiropractic Adjustment CAN do! Herein lies the reason for this feature on this website: EDUCATION.

The patients seen in our offices can have issues with headaches, seizures, jaw or TMJ issues, scoliosis, intervertebral stenosis, central canal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, pars fractures, disc hernations, bulges, sequestration, and prolapses that may require conservative care prior to a surgical event. We assess every patient with examinations, radiographs using the 27 markers of the P.C.C.R.P. guidelines established by Radiology experts from the International Chiropractors Association , and any addtional information that may be collected in our office or presented by the patient such as previous history, MRIs, X-RAYS, Doctor reports, etc. to ensure that a complete picture is made from all pertinant information available about the patient and the condition they may be suffering from.

A strategic plan to see how the patient responds is key, but data collection is imperative for a positive outcome prior to treatment. Often patients try the Chiropractic approach first. This can be the end of the "pain-train" very often if the condition is caught early enough to commence the healing process to avoid surgical procedures. If the injury can be managed conservatively through Chiropractic adjustments and surgery averted, patients may continue to live normally. Sometimes the patient has a re-injury and then surgery is indicated.

The patient needs to understand that they did not waste time or money attempting to use a conservative approach first, but that they set themselves up for a potentially faster healing process due to corrective applications above and below the injury reorganizing the movement patterns into as normal as possible. Many feel that they use this very same school of thought and methodology prior to knee surgery for example or even go on a diet before another type of surgical procedure. Prepping the area for better outcomes is the goal of the Pre-Surgical Chiropractor.

RETURN TO AN ACTIVE LIFE

Dr. McDougle was on a similar path as you!

Dr. McDougle [to right side in attached photo] was told after a life threatening injury after an industrial accident in 1988 where he nearly lost his arm, that he would NEVER return to weight-training or bodybuilding! He through injury and subsequent necessary surgical reconstruction lost nearly half his arm, both latissimus dorsi, had multiple skin grafts shaved from all over his thighs & hips and now has a plate holding his right humerus together! The photograph attached was in 1993 upon his first return to the bodybuilding stage after his recouperation and displays a 21 inch arm [his non-injured arm - NO STEROIDS EITHER].

Dr. McDougle is clinically handicapped following his accident but that hasn't kept him from advancing Chiropractic or working on the largest, strongest, strength athletes on planet earth! You see, he had to learn some very valuable personal lessons in how to get back on top after experiencing a devastation injury that created severe life hardships. He brings these experiences of overcoming challenges with him as he aids the patients that have Pre & Post Surgical needs.

The likelihood of you ever having a Doctor previously serve you that has these kinds of life challenges is rare. His story is also very unique. Compassion but no excuses tends to be his perspective when caring for his Pre & Post Surgical Chiropractic Patients!
